The Research Training Course for Residents is designed to train residents in appropriate methods of doing research, in fulfillment of the AOA/ACGME Core Competencies for residency training.
The Research Training Course includes 20 content modules, viewable on computer or iPod-compatible devices. Evaluation is completed via web-based quizzes and written assignments. Five copies of the Faculty Mentor Handbook are provided for use by mentoring faculty, and additional handbooks are available for purchase. Click here to purchase additional handbooks.
The Research Training Course provides residents with the ability to:
- Explain the main steps in the research process, including developing an appropriate research question, formulating testable hypotheses, choosing an appropriate research design, selecting an appropriate statistical analysis approach, and planning dissemination of the results.
- Evaluate medical research literature.
- Explain the ethics of medical research and the purposes of the Institutional Review Board.
- Successfully complete the research requirement for the residency program.
