  1. How do I enter my MSU Alumni Association member number?
    At Step 4 in the registration process, enter your first name, last name, and membership number. Please note that you must type your name as it shows up on your membership card. If you do not have your membership number and/or card handy, contact the MSU Alumni Association at (877) 678-2586. Note that only one adult (either an adult attending or a parent of a child attending) needs to have an MSU Alumni Association membership in order for the discount to apply to all adults in the order. There is no MSU Alumni Association discount for children.


  2. I entered the number that is on my Alumni membership card, but it won’t work. Now what?
    Check your membership card or your most recent MSU Alumni Magazine to double-check your membership number. If that doesn’t work, leave the First name and Last name fields blank and enter 0000 into the Membership ID field below. Your discount will be reflected in your shopping cart. (The Grandparents University Planning Committee reserves the right to revoke this discount if it is determined that there is not an active MSUAA membership for an adult attending or the parents of a child attending).


  3. I’m a Life Member and my card doesn’t have a number on it. How do I enter that?
    Contact the MSU Alumni Association at (877) 678-2586 and request the number.


  4. I’m signing up for a new MSUAA membership. What code do I enter to get my discount?
    New members who wish to join the MSU Alumni Association today (or members who have not yet received their membership information), ARE eligible for the MSUAA membership discount on their Grandparents University registration. Members meeting these criteria should leave the First name and Last name fields blank and enter 0000 into the Membership ID field below. Your discount will be reflected in your shopping cart. (The Grandparents University Planning Committee reserves the right to revoke this discount if it is determined that no new membership is pending for an adult attending or the parents of a child attending).


  5. I have been trying to call you for an hour, but get only a busy signal. Are your phones broken?
    Due to the high volume of calls, the line may be frequently tied up.


  6. How do I know that I have registered?
    You will receive an email shortly after completing registration with an order number. Please remember to save this order number in case you need to contact GPU or shop.msu in the future (refunds, etc.).


  7. I’m supposed to get a packet of information. When can I expect that?
    Packets will be sent to registrants by mid-February.


  8. Do I get my t-shirts in the mail?
    No, the t-shirts will be given out during registration when you arrive at Grandparents University.

  9. I don’t have an email address. How can I register?
    Registration will need to be completed over the phone by creating a fake email address firstname.lastname@shop.msu.edu. This will ensure that the fake email address isn’t actually someone’s on another campus server. Set the password to “welcome”. The customer will not be receiving a confirmation email, so they will need to be told their order number over the phone.


  10. Is it OK if my daughter who has a computer registers me and her children?
    Yes, as long as the names of the participants are correct in the registration fields, it doesn’t matter who signs up and/or pays for the registration.


  11. Why do I have to enter shipping information if nothing is being shipped to me right now?
    This is the way our online system works. The “Ship to” address can be the grandparent’s or it can be the address of the person doing the registration. Since all information for mailing packets, etc. is gained from the fields during the registration process, the “Ship to” address is not important.


  12. I’m an alumnus, but not part of the Alumni Association? Can I still get a discount?
    No, you will need to join the MSU Alumni Association by clicking www.msualum.com or calling 1-877-MSU-ALUM.


  13. My password won’t work! What do I do now?
    If you have registered before or placed other orders on shop.msu, please select the “I forgot my password” link to have it emailed to you.


  14. Why do I have to create an account before I register? Will I get annoying emails in the future?
    The system will save a history of customer orders as well as the billing/shipping addresses. When creating an account, you have the option to de-select the box that says, “I wish to receive occasional emails from shop.msu.edu”. A customer can also be manually removed from the email list.


  15. I registered last year, so can you just charge this year’s registration to the credit card on file?
    No, we can’t do that. As a security feature, no credit card information is stored in our system. The client will need to reenter their information.


  16. What is a security code? Why do you need that?
    On the back of MasterCard, Visa, and Discover cards, the last four digits of the credit card number are listed along with a three-digit number. Those three digits are the security code. On the front of the American Express card, the security code is four digits long and not embossed. The security code is needed to verify that the registrant is in possession of the card, which decreases the likelihood of someone using a stolen credit card number. Although this is probably not a problem with Grandparents University registrants, it is a built-in security feature of the credit card processing software.


  17. Can I pay by check?
    Shop.msu doesn’t have the ability to accept checks through the mail. Grandparents University registrations can only be paid by credit card.


  18. Uh oh. I think I registered twice. Can I cancel my extra order? Will I be charged twice?
    Yes, orders can be canceled. If the credit card payment has already been processed, a refund will be issued. If the payment is waiting for processing, it can be voided.


  19. It turns out that I can’t go. How do I get a refund?
    You will need to contact the Grandparents University Planning Committee at gpu@msu.edu or 1-800-353-5646 before the end of January. The credit card will then be refunded.
