Recruiting Trends Report
Recruiting Trends Report 2009-2010
Our Price: $50.00

The college labor market has hit bottom! After a precipitous drop of between 35% and 50% last year, employers appear to be holding hiring to the same level as 2009.  We expect bachelor level hiring to be down less than 2.  This projection is based on information provided by over 2500 employers to Michigan State University’s 2009-2010 Recruiting Trends survey.  Despite recent media reports that small employers are hurting as the economy continues to struggle, small employers (<500 employees) remain the backbone of the college labor market and expect to increase hiring over the next 10 months.  The bad news comes from medium size employers, those second and third tier purveyors of goods and services to larger firms and organizations.  Now feeling the full tsunami of the economic downturn, these companies continue to cut labor and hiring projections, down nearly 11% this year.  Our largest employer respondents, falling between the two extremes, are trying to keep a steady course while still shedding some jobs.  Employers seem to have several messages this year: Flexibility (seek candidates across all majors who can slide into a variety of positions as needed or can adapt quickly to changing conditions), Technical disadvantage (except for computer science (IT), the market for technical graduates is somber), and Business shift (demand for  accounting is down while students with acumen in internet business and entrepreneurialism are up).  The Trends report compares hiring across economic sectors, location, academic major, and company size. Issues pertinent to this year’s recruiting cycle are also discussed, including role of social media and the impact of reduced college recruiting staff and budget.  Even with the good news, there will not be enough jobs to go around.  Students need to continue to be FOCUSED, DIRECTED, and CONNECTEDRecruiting Trends contains 21 pages of information on college hiring for 2009 – 2010.The downloadable file is available as a PDF document.
