| Privacy Interests of Employees On-demand Webinar
If you were unable to join us for the live webinar session – no worries! MSU’s School of Labor and Industrial Relations is offering the on-demand webinar: Privacy Interests of Employees.
This on-demand webinar will deliver the same materials and audio presented during the live session and also includes the original eGuidebook, a handy resource for you to refer back to again and again.
Explore the state and federal protections of employees’ privacy interests. Both the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as state law, protect the privacy of information in employees’ records. In addition, employees’ interest in their privacy while at work must be balanced against an employer’s need to supervise work and to investigate allegations of misconduct, including an obligation to address harassment claims. Such supervision and investigation must be conducted within the confines of federal and state laws protecting privacy, including the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Employee Polygraph Protection Act. Employers may also wish to test employees for use of drugs, while still considering their employees’ interest in privacy. This on-demand webinar will guide employers in the collection and storage of information about their employees without violating their obligations to protect the privacy of those employees.
